The concept of the character and transport for the Radical Racer contest 2020.
I was inspired by the lifestyle of my beloved northern aborigines, whose everyday life I indirectly studied in my master’s degree. A little futurism, post-apocalypse, dogs and human drama formed the image of a desperate and fearless cyber racer Oloka.

Since time immemorial, the Earth’s natural cycles were in balance. But global warming on the planet led to disaster – there was less and less snow, and then winter stopped coming at all. Natural catastrophes turned the Earth into a desert and forced people to flee their homes. Most of the population was saved on several comfortable planets of the Galaxy with mild snowless winters.
Oloka and his father are the distant descendants of the Earth’s northern aborigines. They settled on the planet Sumera several years ago and began life from scratch. Together they breed and sold dogs for the popular Winter Atomic Dog extreme sled dog racing competition. The competition was held annually on the poorly developed snowy planet Matra.
Once at night Oloka’s father woke up from the noise and loud barking of his dogs and went to see what was going on. Suddenly on the street he saw a man running away with puppies in his hands – it was a robber. Sled dogs could only be needed by competitors and cost a lot of money. It’s quite clear that the dogs were abducted for that very purpose. The man tried to stop the criminal but met resistance and was seriously wounded in an unequal fight.
Oloka found his father lying on the ground and took him to the house. The dying father gave Oloka a sacred relic – the Akan amulet which was handed down by the ancestors of the North through generations. That same night Oloka swore he’d find the killer and get revenge. To do so, he became a racing driver and participates in the Winter Atomic Dog. He breeds, trains, modifies dogs himself and improves his sled for dangerous races.
Transportation:
HYBRID SLED MT54
High-speed sled equipped with a gravitational-plasma harness and controls on the steering wheel allowing contact with animals in the race. The ideal amortisation of the hybrid body is highly resilient and durable, suitable for the hardest and most extreme competitive conditions.
CYBER DOGS
Hardy and energetic modified nordic dogs. Enhanced with dynamic exoskeleton and power nodes. Especially resistant to low temperatures.
Special Trick:
“BONES”
Treats made from dried cattle veins using flavour enhancers that affect the behaviour of the opponent’s animals. Thrown onto the track while driving snacks distract the dogs racing behind for a while.
Lucky Charm:
“AKAN”
Ritual doll is a family heirloom. Oloka got it from his father which was passed on as a talisman through the generations.
